Do I have to season a wineador/electric humidor?

Yes. If your wineador has wood trays and shelves, you should season the unit with Boveda 84% packs before adding cigars. Full details for wineador seasoning are  below.

HOW TO SEASON A WINEADOR/ELECTRIC HUMIDOR WITH BOVEDA

Seasoning conditions the wood components inside the wineador. Use four Boveda 84% RH seasoning Size 60 packets for every 100 cigars your electric humidor is designed to hold.

  1. Unplug the electric humidor/wineador/cooler. Remove the cigars.
  2. With the unit completely empty—no cigars—remove the clear overwrap from the Boveda 84% packs.  (DO NOT open the humidity packets themselves.)
  3. Place the packs on the trays and shelves throughout the unit.
  4. Close the door and don’t open the cabinet for 7 days. This period is crucial for allowing the wood to fully absorb the moisture it needs.
  5. After 7 days, open the cabinet, remove the Boveda seasoning packs and discard them—they aren’t reusable.  
  6. Move cigars back in, plug in your cabinet, and add Boveda 69% RH packs for ongoing cigar protection.
