Why did the humidity drop in my humidor?
A drop in humidor humidity is typically a result of an uncalibrated hygrometer, dry new cigars absorbing moisture, an unseasoned wooden humidor, or using too few Boveda packets.
TOP 5 REASONS FOR A HUMIDOR HUMIDITY DROP:
- Uncalibrated Hygrometer: Over time, digital and analog hygrometers and humidity sensors fall out of calibration. Re-calibrate a hygrometer every six (6) months using a Boveda One-Step Hygrometer Calibration Kit to ensure accurate RH readings before troubleshooting further.
- Adding Unconditioned Cigars: Dry cigars act like sponges and absorb moisture rapidly. Acclimate new cigars in a Boveda Humidor Bag or an airtight Tupperware® container with a 69% RH Boveda pack for at least four (4) weeks before adding them to your primary humidor.
- Unseasoned Wooden Humidor: Dry cedar wood sucks moisture out of the air and your cigars. Season new wooden humidors—or re-season dry ones—using Boveda 84% RH Seasoning Packs before storing cigars.
- Too Few Boveda Packets: Boveda quantity is based on total humidor capacity, not the number of cigars inside. Make sure you're using enough packs in your humidor with the Boveda Quantity & Sizing Chart.
- Incorrect RH Percentage: Using an RH level too low for your humidor type (e.g., using 65% RH in a leaky glass-top wooden humidor instead of 72% RH) can prevent your humidor from stabilizing. Make sure you're using the right RH for your humidor with the Boveda RH Chart.
